Director of Finance

The Director of Finance position is measured by several factors including, but not limited to building a Business Partner relationship between the Finance department & management teams while meeting/exceeding organizational goals. 

General Summary

Director of Finance manages the accounting, finance, payroll, benefits, audit, financial reporting, investment, and budgeting functions for our organization; provides oversight in area of facilities and physical plant; provide superb fiscal management services to all our programs and proactively develops and implements effective processes, procedures and systems; deliver useful information and analysis and supports decision-making and short and long-range planning.  Collaborates work with the CEO and Corporate Leadership Team to assess the financial dimensions of new opportunities; and plays an important role in shaping the future of Computer Systems Institute.

 

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Management

Duties include: management responsibility for annual and monthly financial statements, budgets and forecasts, A/P, A/R, cash management, accounting policies, processes, and procedures, insurance, banking relationships and other professional services, annual audit support, tax-related reporting and filing, MIS, as well as the planning, direction and preparation of full, accurate and timely accounting records and reporting, including required communication or filings with any government agencies.

Payroll Administration                                                                          

  • Prepare payroll files including deductions, route for internal approval and final submittal for each pay cycle utilizing automated payroll system.
  • Prepare and enter payroll and other related month end journal entries.
  • Review payroll to ensure timeliness and accuracy and to identify potential difficulties.
  • Research and resolve problems from employees related to the processing of payroll information and make appropriate recommendations for solutions.
  • Prepare and maintain standard and ad hoc payroll reports, queries, and conduct appropriate audits to ensure data integrity.
  • Maintain payroll related schedules and reconcile monthly to General Ledger.
  • Process off-cycle checks, as necessary, for terminations and bonuses
  • Assist in the processing of garnishments, overpayments, time-off payouts, and other special payments.
  • Ensure new hire, pay change, special payment, and termination data is accurate, complete, and submitted timely for each pay cycle.
  • Assist with changes for direct deposit, tax withholding allowances, address, etc.

Benefits Administration                                                              

  • Administer employee benefit plans to include: medical/dental/vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k), worker’s compensation and leaves of absence.
  • Assist with new-hire orientations and on-boarding new employees as needed.
  • Assist in the processing of employment and unemployment verifications.
  • Provide necessary benefit reporting and assist with other human resources duties as assigned.
  • Initiate and manage HR audits and compliance filings to ensure accuracy and timeliness. (5500 Reports, 401K audit, etc.)
  • Assists with the audits of internal records, worker’s compensation, tax filings and related documentation.

Fiscal Analysis

Duties include: leadership in developing financial modeling and scenario planning and providing updates to functional and program management planning assumptions. Leadership and participation in analysis of new opportunities. Development and maintenance of performance indicators, metrics and benchmarking. Analytical tool and process development.  Analysis and understanding of cost drivers. Provide reports and advice to CSI’s President and Executive Vice President. Will also incorporate research and findings into long-range planning and analytics.

 

Financial Services Development

Provide proactive leadership with respect to process improvements. Develops and/or enhances, and implements, accounting policy, procedures and systems, and internal controls and standards. Develops strong, high-value MIS.

 

Demonstrate Key Competencies       

  • Superb technical skills and deep knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAP).
  • Proven expertise in financial reporting, internal control, audit, budgeting, revenue and cost analysis, human resources and benefits administration, and financial modeling.
  •  Leadership, supervisory and people skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort interacting at board level.
  • Strong financial modeling and analysis skills.
  • Proven abilities in evaluating, recommending and deploying new tools and methodologies.

 

Result Assessment and Updates

Achieve a deep understanding of Campus’ business unit strategies, goals and objectives to support appropriate changes and collaboratively develop and implement solutions to achieve success.

 

Policies, Processes, Procedures

Partner with Executive Team, Campus leadership and their teams thru developing and supporting the delivery of effective financial initiatives.

 

Implementation

  • Develop and implement comprehensive compensation and
  • function as a resource to advise and provide guidance on various financial policies, practices, and processes.
  • Provide overall leadership and guidance to the Finance function; partner with leadership teams to develop and implement plans and strategies to support the achievement of the overall business objectives.
  • Lead or provide support on other duties and projects as assigned.

Education and Experience

The position requires a Bachelor Degree or MBA in Finance or Accounting, CPA highly preferred. 

Heavy accounting and finance exposure and background within the Education industry with a minimum of 10 years of related work experience preferred.

Experience working directly with senior executives to achieve strategic initiatives.

Ability to get key objectives accomplished though others – both direct report leaders as well as through leaders outside direct reporting relationship.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job; leadership is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

Work Environment

Normal office working conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
